Requirements

  • Must possess current Nuclear Medicine license through the West Virginia Board of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Must be registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Board (NMTCB) as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • CPR certification.
  • Differentiate various shades of gray and color as depicted on a monitor or photograph.
  • Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds of weight.
  • Carry items of up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.
  • Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the Health Care Team.
  • Ability to improvise with altered positioning techniques, manipulation of the equipment, and accessory devices when routine positioning is compromised due to patient’s condition, age or ability.
  • Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety.

Responsibilities

  • Operation of nuclear medicine computer. Enter all pertinent patient and drug information, to maintain accurate files for state and federal inspections.
  • If hard copy images, Obtains prior x-ray films from patient's file needed to perform scanning procedure and returns files after completion of examination.
  • Administers patient care services during scanning to provide comfort and support to patients.
  • Records and files maintained records of radionuclides injected into patients; dispose of inactive nuclide material after disintegration and charts method of disposal.
  • Quality assurance testing on dose calibrator, spectrometer survey meters, and gamma camera to ensure maximum accuracy.
  • Adheres to rules and regulations established by nuclear regulatory commission regarding radiation safety for personnel and patients.
  • Elute generator, prepares radionuclide drugs and draws prescribed dose for nuclear medicine procedure.
  • Injects patients with accurate dose activity for each examination. Maintains IV competency and set-up.
  • Participates in development of formal and in-service training program for department personnel; demonstrates specific techniques of operating equipment properly. Performs procedures for calibration and maintain all equipment.
  • Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge in nuclear medicine methods, procedures, equipment and supplies. Evaluates and applies newly developed equipment and products to improve quality assurance standards. Assist in reviewing results of calibration and equipment. Assists in reviewing and maintaining records of dose calibration and result of assay regarding radionuclide purity, sterility and pygragen-free status. Maintains records of service on equipment and radionuclide studies for nuclear regulatory commission inspection. Performs quality assurance studies in nuclear medicine. Correlates procedural report from other department with nuclear medicine reports to provide exam accuracy. Completes patient information form prior to examination. Maintains accurate log book of scheduled patients and completed examinations. Radiation surveys to rule out radioactive contamination. Properly assesses patient information on RMS system. Charges, changes and adds information as necessary to keep records accurate. Can access patient lab records, etc., as needed through SMS. Responsible for verifying pre-certification of insurance for pre-certification on procedure that require it. Logs off after using computer. Reports are obtained and delivered to referring Physicians/floors in a timely manner. May remove oxygen tubing from a wall gauge, attach tubing to an oxygen tank and adjust the flow meter on the tank as ordered by the physician.
