About The Position

WLKY, the CBS affiliate in Louisville, KY, offers paid internships for college students. In order to apply for an internship at WLKY, please provide a cover letter with your application. The cover letter should include: Semester availability: Summer Position preference: News Producer, News Reporter, Video-Journalist, Technical Production, Digital Producer Available start and end dates Days and hours available to intern Interns will spend 10-12 weeks shadowing and gaining on-the-job experience. You will be working in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment. You will report to the News Director.

Requirements

• Must be a college student.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Prior experience shooting video and/or editing on Adobe Premiere preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with news managers and other producers to determine important stories that need to be covered.
• Learn how to write copy for broadcast, research stories for details and accuracy, and develop the ability to complete projects quickly and efficiently.
• Manage the execution of a live newscast in a control room, working closely with production staff.
• Create graphic elements, including lower-third supers and full screen graphics.
• Communicate with reporters to learn the details of their stories to determine placement in the newscast.
• Collaborate with reporters and photographers to learn the responsibilities of covering local news.
• Write stories for both online and broadcast.
• Shoot standups and practice live shots.
• Gather video and interview content, and assemble stories for broadcast.
• Make quick assessments regarding safety and situational concerns while shooting video.
• Produce content in a content management system that supports and populates digital platforms.
• Observe and train on all aspects of behind-the-scenes newscast production.
