About The Position

The WISN Spring Intern position offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in a premier multimedia company. Interns will rotate through various departments, including Newsroom, Creative Services, Sports, Technical, and Weather, allowing them to develop a comprehensive understanding of the broadcasting industry. This paid internship lasts 10-12 weeks and requires candidates to receive academic credit from an accredited institution.

Requirements

• Must be a Junior or Senior with a declared major in a related field such as Broadcast, Communications, Journalism, Digital Marketing, Public Relations, Meteorology, Sports, Technical, or Creative Services.
• Intern must receive credit from an accredited college, university, or trade school.
• Written verification of internship credit is required from the institution.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with social media platforms for content promotion.
• Familiarity with news production software and tools.
• Basic understanding of weather forecasting and meteorology.

Responsibilities

• Assist in gathering news and information at the assignment desk.
• Practice writing and formatting scripts for broadcast in TV News production.
• Research and write content for WISN digital platforms.
• Attend news and department meetings to discuss daily topics and performance goals.
• Write copy for voice-overs and promotional identifications in Creative Services.
• Perform production assistant duties such as locating props and researching music.
• Shadow promotion producers to learn about editing and shooting responsibilities.
• Check sports and news wires for breaking sports news in the Sports department.
• Compile and submit lists of chyron material for shows.
• Analyze weather charts and models in the Weather department.
