About The Position

This is an opportunity to participate in a multifaceted and outstanding engineering group at one of the world’s leading companies. Candidates will have the opportunity to work on highly technical topics related to some of Apple’s latest products in power technology. In particular, the role includes participation in the design, simulation, testing and analysis of current and future wireless power products. The role requires broad knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) modeling of the magnetic field in addition to thermal simulation and heat transfer. The candidate should have basic knowledge of the physics of magnetic materials, Maxwell’s equations, heat transfer theory and finite element analysis. This is a unique opportunity in designing inductive power links with mass production intent. Candidates with a creative attitude and who are eager to undertake new challenges will find this role especially fulfilling.

Requirements

  • Background in electromagnetics and a sound facility with Maxwell’s equations.
  • Experience with COMSOL and/or Maxwell FEA simulation tools.
  • Familiarity in creating multi-physics models to help predict electrical and thermal performance as it relates to wireless charging.
  • BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with common lab equipment and measurement techniques including network analyzers, LCR meter, power supply/amplifiers, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Familiarity with thermal simulation software, such as Flotherm/Icepak/Abaqus/COMSOL Multiphysics.
  • Experience in creating mathematical, computational, and numerical models for reduced order and more complex thermal analysis.
  • Familiarity with characterizations for thermal validation and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with transformer theory and modeling.
  • Understanding of physics of magnetic materials.
  • Working knowledge in heat transfer.
  • M.S. + 3 yrs experience or Ph.D. (preferred) in material science or power electronics (ECE) program, or related area (e.g. engineering physics).

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design, simulation, testing and analysis of wireless power products.
  • Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) modeling of the magnetic field.
  • Perform thermal simulation and heat transfer analysis.
  • Design inductive power links with mass production intent.
