About The Position
The Business Manager position at Winterset School District is a full-time role that operates under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Schools. The primary purpose of this position is to manage the Business Services functions of the district, which encompass a wide range of responsibilities including budget and finance, purchasing, transportation, food services, safety and risk management, and other related areas. The Business Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the fiscal health of the school district and maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations. In this role, the Business Manager supervises the fiscal operations of the school district, adhering to standard accounting and bookkeeping principles. This includes maintaining accurate records of accounts receivable and payable, as well as the overall financial position of the district. The Business Manager is responsible for assisting the Superintendent in preparing annual budget requests, which are essential for maintaining and improving educational opportunities and support operations. Monthly operating statements, quarterly reports, and other financial documents are prepared by the Business Manager as requested. The position also involves securing an annual audit of the district's finances and organizing a comprehensive system for record-keeping and reporting as mandated by law. The Business Manager oversees all purchasing, banking activities, payroll, and employee benefits programs, ensuring that all operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. Additionally, the role includes establishing and managing safety and risk management policies to ensure a safe environment for both employees and students, as well as maintaining appropriate insurance levels to protect district property and liabilities. The Business Manager is tasked with overseeing the transportation programs, including bus routes and contracts, to ensure a cost-effective student transportation system. The food service operation is also under the purview of the Business Manager, who is expected to continue acquiring professional knowledge through seminars and workshops. Furthermore, the Business Manager assists the Superintendent in making recommendations regarding salaries and benefits for district employees and represents the district in various off-site meetings and associations. This position requires a proactive approach to managing multiple tasks and responsibilities while maintaining effective communication and relationships with stakeholders.
