About The Position

The North Middlesex School District is seeking a dedicated and energetic Head Winter Sideline Cheerleading Coach to lead the high school cheerleading program. The coach will focus on developing student-athletes' technical skills, leadership, team cohesion, and school spirit, while promoting safety, sportsmanship, and personal growth. The Head Coach will oversee all aspects of the program, including practices, game-day performances, competitions, and coordination with athletic teams and school staff. The ideal candidate is committed to mentoring student-athletes both on and off the floor, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture, and representing North Middlesex Athletics with professionalism and pride.

Requirements

• Experience coaching cheerleading at the high school level, or significant experience in competitive cheerleading.
• Knowledge of cheerleading fundamentals, stunting, tumbling, jumps, and crowd-leading techniques.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes while fostering a positive, inclusive team culture.
• Must meet all North Middlesex School District, MIAA, and NFHS coaching requirements.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience as a head or assistant cheer coach at the high school or collegiate level.
• Knowledge of competitive cheer routines and judging criteria.
• Background in choreography, strength and conditioning, or sports psychology.
• Experience with both sideline and competitive cheer programs.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive cheerleading program philosophy aligned with North Middlesex Athletics' mission and core values.
• Provide direction, mentorship, and guidance to all members of the cheerleading squad.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable team culture that emphasizes leadership, teamwork, and school spirit.
• Serve as a role model, demonstrating integrity, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
• Plan and conduct safe, structured, and engaging practices focusing on sideline cheers, chants, jumps, stunts, tumbling, and dance routines.
• Develop the technical skills, athleticism, and performance quality of all team members.
• Teach proper technique, safety practices, and progression for stunts, pyramids, and tumbling.
• Motivate and mentor student-athletes to build confidence, resilience, and personal growth.
• Lead cheerleading performances at all winter home and away games, supporting the boys and girls basketball teams and other winter sports as assigned.
• Coordinate team chants, cheers, and crowd engagement activities to promote school spirit and sportsmanship.
• Ensure the squad is prepared for pep rallies, school events, and potential competition performances.
• Encourage positive relationships, teamwork, and mutual respect among all squad members.
• Promote academic excellence and responsible behavior, reinforcing the connection between athletics and education.
• Provide leadership opportunities for student-athletes to develop communication, confidence, and organizational skills.
• Address conflicts or behavioral concerns professionally and collaboratively with school staff.
• Maintain regular communication with the Athletic Director, coaching staff, parents, and school administrators.
• Collaborate with other coaches to integrate cheerleading support with game strategy and team performance.
• Participate in program meetings, planning sessions, and professional development opportunities.
• Ensure all practices, games, and events follow MIAA, NFHS, and North Middlesex School District safety guidelines.
• Monitor proper use of mats, safety equipment, and safe progression for stunts and tumbling.
• Maintain required certifications, including CPR, First Aid, and concussion management training.
• Enforce all school policies, including eligibility requirements, conduct, and attendance.
