About The Position

Switchpoint is seeking reliable, energetic, and compassionate individuals for our seasonal winter shelter team, serving those experiencing homelessness during the coldest months of the year. This is a seasonal role from approximately Mid-October through Mid-March, with hours primarily tied to CODE BLUE weather events or nights designated for cold weather sheltering. Staff will be responsible for client supervision, safety monitoring, policy enforcement, and assisting in shelter operations during emergency weather activations. All shifts will be supported by at least one additional staff member, with access to additional personnel in adjacent facilities as needed.

Requirements

  • Prior experience working in a shelter, transitional housing, or similar setting preferred
  • Understanding of domestic violence, mental health, and substance use challenges
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong emotional intelligence and boundary-setting skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
  • Valid Utah Driver’s License and clean driving record required
  • Passion for Switchpoint’s mission and values

Responsibilities

  • Implement Switchpoint’s mission, values, and policies.
  • Maintain a calm and respectful atmosphere; model positive behavior.
  • Supervise and support shelter operations and client activities.
  • Conduct client intake, interviews, and chore supervision.
  • Monitor medication storage and administration per policy.
  • Provide safety checks, enforce shelter rules, and handle crisis situations.
  • Answer phones professionally, complete logs, and document activities.
  • Distribute hygiene and personal care supplies.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Work cooperatively with volunteers, clients, and other staff teams.
  • Transport clients to appointments or events as needed (valid UT Driver’s License required).
  • Accurately document client interactions, phone calls, and incidents per policy
  • Maintain sign-in/out logs for volunteers, residents, and visitors
  • Answer Switchpoint’s main office phone and conduct telephone screenings professionally
  • Review and contribute to daily communication logs between shifts
