About The Position

The Winter Livestock Worker position involves caring for livestock during the winter months, ensuring their health and safety in extreme weather conditions. The role requires monitoring nutritional needs, providing water, and assisting with calving and general maintenance of the ranch. This is a full-time temporary position from January 4, 2025, to March 31, 2025, located in the Harrison Pass Area of Elko County, Nevada.

Requirements

  • Three months of experience in livestock care.
  • One reference required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Experience in handling extreme winter conditions.
  • Ability to identify approaching storm periods and take precautions.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the nutritional needs of livestock during winter.
  • Ensure access to unfrozen water for animals.
  • Distribute emergency supplemental feed as needed.
  • Perform maintenance and general repairs on fences.
  • Assist in calving and moving pregnant cows to different areas.
  • Identify signs of cows going into labor and assist during difficult births.
  • Provide water to animals and maintain water troughs and lines.
  • Assist in providing feed for the livestock.
  • Identify herd health issues such as malnutrition, prolapse, and mastitis.
  • Maintain cleanliness of employer-provided housing.
