About The Position

The Wildlife Telecommunicator position is a temporary full-time role within the NC Wildlife Resources Commission's Law Enforcement Division Telecommunications Center. The primary responsibility is to manage emergency and non-emergency communications, providing centralized support for over 200 law enforcement officers across North Carolina. This role requires effective communication skills, the ability to multitask under pressure, and a commitment to assisting the public and law enforcement agencies in understanding and enforcing wildlife laws.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working efficiently under pressure situations.
  • Ability to type and document information quickly and accurately.
  • Basic knowledge of Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations concerning radio communications.

  • Previous experience working in a communications center.
  • Experience as a Law Enforcement Telecommunicator with DCIN experience.

Responsibilities

  • Answer emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and law enforcement agencies.
  • Document and disseminate information to Wildlife Enforcement Officers across 9 Districts in North Carolina.
  • Provide centralized communications for NCWRC Law Enforcement Division Officers, NC Forestry, and US Fish & Wildlife Agencies.
  • Receive requests for assistance via radio, telephone, and DCIN terminals, ensuring proper assistance is provided.
  • Initiate action for requests from other governmental agencies and monitor frequency for assistance requests.
  • Receive reports of violations of game, fish, and boating laws and initiate appropriate enforcement action.
  • Handle reports of fish kills and unusual water pollution, relaying information to concerned agencies.
  • Provide information to the public regarding laws, rules, and regulations of the Wildlife Resources Commission.
  • Assist the public with inquiries about injured or orphaned animals and provide rehabilitation information.
