Wildlife Technician Internship (Forestry)

About the position

The Wildlife Technician Internship at Sierra Pacific Industries offers a unique opportunity for college students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in wildlife biology and forestry. Interns will assist in managing forest lands in the Sierra Nevada, focusing on monitoring sensitive species such as the California Spotted Owl and Northern Goshawk. This role involves fieldwork, data collection, and the chance to observe wildlife in their natural habitats, making it an excellent fit for those passionate about conservation and environmental science.

Responsibilities

• Support ongoing monitoring of sensitive species
• Conduct forestry and wildlife-related project work requiring demanding physical activity
• Perform data entry
• Camp for up to four nights in one week
• Navigate remote, steep mountainous regions using map, compass, and GPS

Requirements

• College-level coursework in wildlife biology, forestry, or biological science
• Knowledge of native wildlife species of California forests
• Ability to safely hike and navigate alone in remote, steep mountainous regions
• Possess a valid driver license and have the ability to drive hazardous mountain roads
• Excellent communication skills
