Individual Placement - Wildlife Survey at Sierra National Forest

About The Position

Wildlife survey crew members will work 10 hour shifts from 2pm until 12:30am for the night shifts and 7am until 5:30pm for day shifts. Day shifts consist of hiking in uneven terrain and possibly carrying up to 45 lbs searching the forest for raptor nests. Night shifts consist of driving on rugged roads to designated locations and broadcasting owl calls to illicit responses from territorial owls. There may be some data entry and GIS mapping with this position.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger.
  • Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • GIS experience
  • Utilizing Avenza Maps, Survey123, and FieldMaps on tablets

Responsibilities

  • Surveying for northern goshawk nests
  • Surveying for spotted owl nests
  • Entering survey information into a national database
  • Mapping survey outings with detections
