About The Position

The Wildlife Rehabilitator position at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife involves overseeing the rehabilitation of various wildlife patients, including sea turtles and birds. The role requires a combination of medical care, dietary preparation, and enrichment activities for the animals, as well as training and supervising interns and volunteers. The position is full-time and may involve working on either day or second shifts, depending on the needs of the hospital.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of three years' related experience in wildlife rehabilitation.
  • Extensive wildlife rehabilitation skills, with preference for sea turtle experience.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and independently.
  • Team player with a positive attitude and exemplary customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with sea turtles is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee rehabilitation of patients, including medical rechecks and administration of treatments.
  • Responsible for assisted feeding, dietary preparation, and husbandry of rehabilitation patients.
  • Assist Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager in designing and implementing enrichment programs.
  • Provide primary care for infant mammals and birds, including after-hours feedings.
  • Oversee primary care of sea turtle patients and assist veterinary staff with treatments.
  • Participate in daily reports to Veterinarians on patients' rehabilitation progress.
  • Complete accurate medical records and dispositions records of rehab patients.
  • Assist in training and oversight of CROW interns, externs, and volunteers.
  • Assist with daily cleaning and maintenance of cages and grounds.
  • Execute proper running of pools, tanks, and equipment for cleaning enclosures.
  • Assist with habitat/environment planning and maintenance schedules.
  • Assist with patient releases, transfers, and rescues in conjunction with Wildlife First Responders.
  • Assist Staff Veterinarian with patient care and updating protocols.
  • Assist with care and monitoring of Visitor Education Center animals.
  • Give presentations in the Visitor Education Center and assist with tours.
  • Provide primary care for animal ambassadors and train them.
  • Supervise students and volunteers during second shift care for patients.
  • Triage after-hours intakes and consult with supervising veterinarian as needed.
