About The Position

The Wildlife Program Specialist prevents and mitigates wildlife hazards to ensure airport safety and FAApliance (Part 139.337). They manage wildlife on and around the airfield, implement the Wildlife Hazard Management Plan (WHMP), and conduct FAA-approved training, including firearms safety. Responsibilities include inspecting and monitoring wildlife activity, habitat management, and reporting findings to the Wildlife Manager. This role coordinates with Airfield Operations and other stakeholders to manage wildlife dispersal, evaluate program effectiveness, and ensurepliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Requirements

  • Three plus (3) years of experience in biology science, wildlife management, or related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in wildlife science, wildlife management, ecology, range and wildlife Management or a closely related field.
  • FAA Qualified Airport Wildlife Biologist certification.
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.
  • Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport's Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.
  • This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport's Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
  • Ability to obtain Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection (CBP) security access clearance within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for CBP security access clearance upon each CBP security access renewal.
  • This is a designated Essential Employee position as defined in DFW Airport's Categories and Classifications Administrative Policy and Procedure. An essential employee is one whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates mitigation or elimination of hazardous wildlife and wildlife habitats on airport property and surrounding areas.
  • Conducts harassment and/or removal program to deter wildlife from the aircraft movement areas.
  • Develops and revises the airport's WHMP as required.
  • Develops and revises the airport's WHMP as required.
  • Reviews advisory and reference materials and rmends changes to improve operations.
  • Conducts timely andprehensive investigations of all aircraft wildlife strikes and safety incidents involving wildlife and prepares wildlife strikes and safety incidents involving wildlife.
  • Works closely with airfield operations, construction, and planning teams, tenants, and industry stakeholders to address wildlife hazards.
  • Manage wildlife dispersal and mitigation efforts, including habitat management, and ensure efficacy of actions by responding to wildlife strikes, conducting species identification, damage assessments, and ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Perform wildlife damage investigations and collect ecological data for analysis and reporting.
  • Collaborates with Airfield Trainers and Technical Training teams to develop and deliver FAApliant training for staff, covering WHMP implementation, firearms safety, and species identification.
  • Conducts both classroom and field training for airfield personnel, ensuring ongoingpliance with FAA and best practices.
  • Maintains and updates training materials and documentation, ensuring staff are equipped for inspections and wildlife hazard responses.
  • Assists the Wildlife Administrator in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on wildlife strikes, WHMP operations, and program oues.
  • Participate in discrepancy and safety meetings, providing guidance on wildlife management, regulatorypliance, and WHMP initiatives.
  • Provides specialized wildlife expertise to board departments addressing aviation safety concerns.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
