About The Position

The Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant Colonel Patrol serves as a statewide assistant administrator within the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, focusing on directing enforcement programs related to operational and technical functions. This role involves overseeing the Patrol functions, managing law enforcement and non-enforcement personnel, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations for the conservation and protection of natural resources. Requirements

  • Nine years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement in the Enforcement Division of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
  • One year of experience as a Wildlife Enforcement Major in state service.
  • Must possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Active Police Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification and current annual training requirements.
  • Qualified to be an ex officio notary public.
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, and work in harsh weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and administers the statewide Patrol functions of the Law Enforcement division.
  • Oversees all Law Enforcement Regional Patrol units throughout the state.
  • Assists the Division Administrator in directing enforcement programs and operational functions.
  • Serves as a principal advisor to the Division Administrator and provides advice on laws and natural resource management.
  • Establishes procedures for the enforcement of state and federal laws related to wildlife and fisheries.
  • Writes and reviews grant proposals and cooperative enforcement agreements.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of department programs and their enforceability.
  • Represents the state as the Boating Law Administrator or special emergency operations coordinator when assigned.
  • Prepares and manages the annual operating budget for the enforcement division.
  • Confers with various state and federal law enforcement agencies.
