This position is open to all Applicants. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for a Wildlife Biologist 4 located in Fairbanks! What you will be doing: This position will lead the analytical program in Region III, the primary purpose of which is to provide technical support (e.g., statistical, geographic information systems, survey and inventory design) to regional research and management for making management decisions and regulatory recommendations. The position will supervise technical staff (e.g., biometrician, technical focused WBs), represent the region on technical issues on statewide working groups, manage the budget for the analytical program, and provide oversight for the analytical program. The working conditions you can expect: This position is based at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game office, on the scenic Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge located in Fairbanks at 1300 College Road. Occasionally this position will participate in remote fieldwork throughout interior and eastern arctic Alaska. Field work is frequently conducted in small aircraft and helicopters, and occasionally in boats and ATVs. During fieldwork you may be exposed to insects, inclement weather, and large animals. Work may occasionally involve exposure to animals, insects and inclement weather, low level flying in planes and helicopters, travel by boat or skiff, or contact with drugs and chemicals. Occasionally, housing may consist of bunkhouses, vessels, or wall tents, and may require shared rooms with field crew members. This position occasionally travels within the state for field work or to respond to wildlife conflict and animal welfare situations. Work occasionally involves travel out of state and internationally to attend meetings and conduct field work. Who we are looking for: The ideal applicant will possess most or all of the following experience: Extensive knowledge of and experience with analytical techniques (e.g., statistics, GIS, data management) relevant to wildlife management and research. Demonstrated ability to oversee projects to completion (i.e., planning, organizing, reporting, data archiving). Experience preparing, formatting, writing, and editing scientific products. Experience coordinating between diverse backgrounds (e.g., managers, researchers, statisticians, analysts) to evaluate complex or controversial problems. Experience evaluating and incorporating novel analytical approaches into research projects or survey and inventory programs.
