As a DNRC Firefighter you are eligible for added assignment pay of 10%25 in addition to your regular hourly rate for employees assigned to and supporting authorized emergency work. “We are looking for qualified and experienced firefighters who want to- 1) Put your skills, experience and passion into play to help lead and implement our Initial Attack program, 2) Provide our newer firefighters the inspiration, training and guidance they need to become the next generation of excellent fireline leaders.” Job Overview: This position has responsibilities to coordinate, implement, and supervise wildland fire initial attack personnel and equip­ment to provide a safe and effective fire manage­ment capabil­ity for the Unit. Work assignments require coopera­tion and coordina­tion with State and Federal agencies, Volunteer Fire Departments, the public, permanent and seasonal employ­ees and private contrac­tors. The posi­tion supervises seasonal activities related to wild­land fire protec­tion, build­ings, grounds, vehicles and fire-related program pro­jects of the Unit. The incumbent will plan, coordinate, and implement training for Unit personnel. One of the priorities for the Unit is our cooperator relationships; therefore, the Senior Engine Boss will maintain relationships with the adjoining DNRC Units, surrounding National Forests and other federal agencies, and surrounding counties. It directly supervises 3 Type 5 Engines and 6 personnel as directed by the Fire Operation Specialist and the Fire Management Officer. This supervision may be extended on and off the Unit during various work schedules. It may also require maintaining quarters at the duty station. This position performs Unit prevention and general forestry work, equipment and facilities maintenance, as well as other duties as assigned. This position may assist in forestry related tasks.

Requirements

  • This position requires a high school diploma and a minimum of (3) fire years of progressive experience including fireline leadership, Incident Command System (ICS) training and related fire program experience.
  • Must be a fully qualified Engine Boss/ICT 5.
  • Requires the ability to attain Incident Commander Type 4 position upon hire.
  • The position requires skill in the use and operation of tools, equipment and vehicles used in wildland fire control, forest management activities and field operations.
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of a variety of computer software applications including; word processing, spreadsheets, databases and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • This position will require annual completion of an arduous Wildland Fire Work Capacity Test which includes walking three miles over level ground, with a 45lb. pack in no more than 45 minutes.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.
