About The Position

This position is the Fire Cache Manager, Lead Property Inventorying, Warehousing, Purchasing, and Building Facilities and Maintenance Manager for the Kalispell Unit. The manager is tasked with the coordination of logistical needs for the Initial attack and large and extended attack fire support for Incidents within the Kalispell Unit. Purchasing and procuring both items needed for fire suppression services as well as hosting and caring for incoming out of area resources. This position is also responsible for building maintenance and upkeep for the Kalispell Unit, the Kalispell Fire Cache, Boorman Fire Cache, and the Boorman Initial Attack Station Bunkhouse. This position requires routine communication and support to intra and interagency partners, local officials, and the public. This position reports directly to the Kalispell Unit Fire Management Officer (position #57660988

Requirements

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and developed skills equivalent to graduation from a 2-year technical trade school and several years (2-4) working in fire logistical support warehousing and inventorying or the trade field of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanics.
  • Incumbent must have a working knowledge of warehousing, specialized equipment and inventory systems; ability to maintain manual and computerized records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment, various fire vehicles, and vehicles hauling and transferring hazardous materials.
  • Ability to operate specialized firefighting equipment and be able to draft specifications for ordering specialized equipment.
  • Additionally, to have knowledge of hiring and contracting specialized fire equipment and vehicles for use by the State of Montana and interagency cooperators.
  • Knowledge of wildland fire size-up, strategy, tactical methods, fire behavior, principles of safety, National Incident Command System, CPR, First Aid, hazard materials handling, fire business management, fire equipment and methods used in wildland and wildland/urban interface fire control.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise several concurrent projects, including setting priorities during projects and fire assignments.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.
  • In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the person selected must produce within three days of hire documents that show authorization to work in the United States. Examples of such documentation include a birth certificate or Social Security card along with a driver’s license or other picture I.D., or a U.S. passport, or a "green card"

Responsibilities

  • Fire Logistics and Support Determine needs, plan, and initiate an appropriate support organization for incidents within the Kalispell Unit.
  • Procurement of services, equipment, fire provisions, and supplies as needed.
  • Perform logistical duties at the Kalispell Unit in support of the fire program. This may include ordering, purchasing, and delivery of supplies to the unit or field; ordering, purchasing, preparing, and/or delivery of equipment, water, food or meals; arranging transportation for incoming resources; ordering arranging and overseeing resources such as port-a-potties, shower units, caterers, lodging, and other vendors or contractors while conducting these functions in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.
  • Complete a comprehensive service and supply plan for the Kalispell Unit.
  • Develop preseason agreements with area vendors to provide logistical support, specifically food, water, and lodging.
  • Ensure the Unit can be self-supporting for incidents at the Type 3 level and/or 100+ people.
  • Supports and provides supplies and equipment for unit fire personnel on initial attack, extended attack and project fires.
  • May be required to operate support equipment and vehicles including pickups with trailers, fire engines, mobile fire cache, skidsters, and forklifts.
  • Responsible for recording, tracking, inventorying and record keeping for all Federal Excess Property (FEPP) and Capital Equipment and Property Accounting Management System (PAMS) with an estimated value of over $1.5 million.
  • Assists with maintenance of computerized inventory to track all Transfer of Property records, Capital Equipment Inventory List, FEPP equipment and loan of property.
  • Ensure all property requiring identification is marked and recorded properly according to FEPP and/or PAMS guidelines.
  • Performs physical inventory of all property as scheduled.
  • Fire Administration Coordination and support Perform a variety of fire administration functions to ensure the effectiveness of the Kalispell Unit Fire Program.
  • Evaluate fire cost reports to ensure accuracy and fiscal accountability of purchases made and Cache orders received.
  • Review documentation of accuracy and completeness and submit documentation to Kalispell Unit Office Manager and/or appropriate agency staff for payment.
  • Refer to and follow interagency finance manuals.
  • Achieve proficiency in IROC, IQS, Isuite, and financial code generation, for purposes of ordering, maintaining and returning local, regional, and national cache items.
  • Prepare EERAs, Land Use Agreements, and purchasing agreements, as needed.
  • Act as Unit’s lead Equipment Inspector Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Coordinate, implement and supervise construction, repair, and maintenance of buildings within the Kalispell Field Office and Boorman Initial Attack Fire Station.
  • Completes minor carpentry, painting, electrical and plumbing projects according to Unified Building Codes and industry standards.
