About The Position

Our Mission – To protect and promote resilient forests that benefit all Oregonians. The Wildland Fire Supervisor will be part of our team establishing the Newport Unit in this new location and ensuring excellent service to our customers. You’ll be part of the ODF team that serves our fellow Oregonians relying on regulation and protection of both public and private forest land in our great state of Oregon!

Requirements

  • Five years of wildland fire suppression or emergency dispatching which includes one year of leading/supervising the work of others OR Bachelor's degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field and two years of wildland fire suppression or emergency dispatching which includes one year of leading/supervising the work of others.
  • Some positions are required to successfully take and pass the physical fitness Work Capacity Test at the moderate level.
  • Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business.

  • Ability to make a wide variety of decisions related to the planning, supervision, coordination, and general administration of seasonal workforce for unit’s fire program.
  • Ability to excel in managing highly diverse teams and experience levels in wildfire management.
  • Ability to make decisions related to Law enforcement, fire suppression, forest smoke management, purchasing, building and equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct responses to multiple wildland fires.
  • Ability to make decisions regarding cost effective strategies and tactics in high stress, high-risk emergency environments.
  • Ability to plan and make decisions for building maintenance and long-term facility management.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise coordination of the necessary field activities to meet Fire Protection Program objectives on the unit or district through cooperation with cooperators and local and federal agencies.
  • Supervise employees engaged in field activities accomplishing prevention, pre-suppression, suppression, and ensure maintenance of equipment and facilities to support accomplishment of program objectives.
