About The Position

At Wilderness Ranch, this is a seasonal role that works alongside the Camp Manager to oversee the Sites and Facilities Department; staff & development, buildings & equipment, operations, budget and administrative needs for the department, which includes one full summer intern and a few month long summer staff. Some of the duties listed above are modified below, given our unique seasonal nature and staffing structure:

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Any necessary certifications as required by the local municipality
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to train and lead teams
  • Positive, flexible attitude and willingness to learn
  • Physically able to do the work
  • Strong proficiency in 2-3 trades, ability to teach/lead other staff in those trades

  • General knowledge of multiple plant systems

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in electrical, plumbing, framing, waste water or HVAC desired
  • Certification(s) in electrical, plumbing, framing, waste water or HVAC desired

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff, as the Site and Facilities Superintendent may assign to you, both summer and winter
  • This includes full and part-time camping staff, in addition to maintenance summer staff, work crew, volunteers and other people who may be assisting with a maintenance or project function at camp
  • Work closely with the work crew and summer staff bosses in making the work experience a positive time of personal growth for the individuals that have volunteered their time at camp
  • Cooperate with all other departments at camp to operate as a team and produce a well-functioning body
  • Relate to the local community in a manner best suited to carry out the public relations policy of Young Life as presented by the Camp Manager
  • At all times, maintain a pleasant, positive attitude toward staff and others involved in the program, conveying the idea of maximum service consistent with the capabilities of the property and equipment

  • Ability to relocate to remote Wilderness Ranch basecamp for May – August every year
  • Training interns, guides, summer staff on all things maintenance and site & facilities related
  • Includes some administrative work listed above as well
