About The Position

The Wild Horse and Burro Coordinator position at the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Milwaukee, WI, is responsible for leading the administrative and operational functions of the district's Wild Horse and Burro (WHB) activities. This role ensures compliance with various departmental and bureau standards while coordinating public outreach and volunteer recruitment efforts to support the WHB Program. The coordinator will also manage transportation logistics and provide guidance on policies and regulations related to wild horse and burro management.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license.
  • Experience in collecting, entering, and organizing data for analytical reports.
  • Experience dealing with the public, resolving complaints, and educating the public on natural resources programs.
  • For GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-07 level in federal service.
  • For GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-09 level in federal service.

Nice To Haves

  • Outdoor experience evaluating, handling, and working with large untrained livestock or wild horses/burros.
  • Experience driving heavy duty pickup trucks and trailers.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the administrative and operational functions of the district's Wild Horse and Burro activities.
  • Coordinates and oversees the scheduling of transportation vehicles, including trailers, trucks, and specialized equipment.
  • Works with BLM public affairs staff to develop and implement public outreach strategies to raise awareness about the BLM's WHB Program.
  • Collaborates to plan and organize events and recruit and retain volunteers interested in supporting the WHB Program.
  • Advises State and local officials, interest groups, and representatives of organizations on applications of Department of the Interior (DOI) and BLM policies and regulations.
  • Prepares reports and summaries regarding program progress, animal welfare, facility management data, placement statistics, volunteer contributions, and public outreach efforts.
