FTE: 1.0_, Shift: Day _, Schedule: M-F_ Position Summary The WIC Registered Dietitian is responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy, providing nutrition assessment and counseling to clients, both in person and remotely, who meet the WIC High Risk criteria, and contributes to the development, implementation, and the evaluation of the nutrition education component for the WIC Program. This is a professional level position working under the direction of the WIC Program Supervisor. Work situations are varied and require dietetic expertise especially as it relates to women, infant and children, interpretation of information from a variety of sources, decision making within the scope of the position’s responsibility, and a service-oriented individual. This position requires discretion and good judgment in decision making. Internal contacts include WIC staff and management. External contacts include patients, families, physicians, and outside organizations and agencies.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of early child development and development of eating techniques
  • Knowledge of and skill in nutritional assessment especially as related to nutritionally high risk participants
  • Knowledge of and skill in breastfeeding promotion and support
  • Skill in nutrition counseling
  • Ability to weigh and measure infants, children and women
  • Ability to perform capillary punctures to obtain hemoglobin results
  • Ability to complete scheduled appointments in allowed time
  • Skill in effective teaching techniques and mentoring other staff and interns
  • Ability to serve a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and willingly accept responsibility
  • Bachelor’s Degree in dietetics, nutrition, or foods and nutrition
  • Registered Dietitian by the American Dietetic Association and certified as an RD in the state of Washington
  • Have literacy and language skills appropriate to address the needs of diverse participants
