About The Position

The WIC Nutritionist will perform duties in accordance with State WIC Policy & Procedures, including screening for intake data to determine nutritional risk and providing nutrition education. The role involves anthropometric measuring, lab work, and maintaining the necessary qualifications to perform required lab work. The Nutritionist will demonstrate motivational interviewing skills, set goals, and perform appropriate WIC documentation. Responsibilities also include prescribing food packages for clients, preparing nutrition care plans, providing client education and outreach, scheduling appointments, and coordinating referrals. The position requires issuing e-WIC benefits and assisting with clinic administrative needs while ensuring a positive customer service experience. The Nutritionist will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team and assist with quality assurance and various projects as assigned. Occasional travel and staff relief may be required.

Requirements

  • BS., B.A. in Clinical Nutrition, Public Health, Nutrition, Community Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Dietetics, Nutritional Science, or Home Economics with emphasis in Nutrition or Dietetics
  • Previous successful supervisory and related experience preferred
  • Training per local and state agency needs
  • Credentialing/competencies in accordance with current credentialing and/or competency requirements
  • Licensed, insured Pennsylvania driver, or access to licensed, insured driver
  • Professional knowledge of maternal and child health; aware of current research within the field
  • Skills necessary to effectively communicate with various members of the health care team and external parties
  • Physical skills: intermittent sitting, standing and walking; ability to use office equipment
  • Ability to concentrate and prioritize, resolve problems, and interact with situations
  • Current BLS Healthcare Provider card

Responsibilities

  • Perform WIC Nutritionist duties per State WIC Policy & Procedures
  • Screen for intake data and determine nutritional risk; provide nutrition education
  • Perform anthropometric measuring and lab work; maintain standing to perform required lab work
  • Demonstrate motivational interviewing skills and goal setting; perform appropriate WIC documentation
  • Prescribe appropriate food packages for clients; prepare nutrition care plans for high-risk clients
  • Provide client education and outreach; schedule appointments and coordinate referrals
  • Issue e-WIC benefits and assist with clinic administrative needs
  • Work with other members of the interdisciplinary team in a positive manner
  • Ensure a positive customer service experience for clients
  • Use technology as assigned; document and sign appropriately
  • Assist the Nutrition Education Coordinator and Breastfeeding Supervisor with quality assurance
  • Assist the Clinic Coordinator(s)/Manager(s) and Director with projects and tasks as assigned
