About The Position

Overview Under the general direction of the WIC Nutrition Assistant II/III, the WIC Nutrition Assistant I is responsible for: category screening, certification documentation, nutrition assessment, nutrition education, development of individual nutrition education plan (INEP), nutrition education established in nutrition care plan, specific nutrition education established in the high risk INEP by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)/Degreed Nutritionist (DN), and issuance of CA WIC Cards. Also performs general clerical duties in support of WIC Program objectives. Responsibilities Works closely with the WIC Nutrition Assistant II/III and other members of the WIC Site team to: Greet the applicant/participant either in person or on the telephone. Accept information required for certification or assessment Maintain an electronic family/individual record through the ISIS application and a paper file. Interviews applicants/participants and determines their certification or re-certification eligibility to include: category screening and certification documentation. Make referrals, issue the food instruments, and schedule appointments. Protect; promote; and support breastfeeding, regularly. Performance Area 1 Works as a team member. Performs Reception/PBX and clerical duties, including: answers the telephone, screens calls, greets applicant/participant and accepts the CA WIC Card and other information required for certification or assessment. Enters all data and maintains records through the WIC WISE Program, including: making referrals, issuing CA WIC Cards, scheduling appointments and screening for income and residence. Answers telephone and utilizes WIC WISE to screen applicants for income and residence. Schedules/Reschedules appointments for applicants and/or participants. Performs pregnancy Outcomes. Confirms appointments. Refers participants and applicants to appropriate community resources. Interviews clients. Determines their certification or re-certification eligibility including: category screening and certification documentation. Is responsible to refer high risk participants to RDN for the development of the INEP. Provides specific nutrition education established in high risk INEP by a RDN. Enters in WIC WISE all data related to the nutrition assessment, INEP, and individual/group education. Facilitates/conducts group education sessions and/or provides referral to wichealth.org and training on its use, for on-line education sessions. Distributes relevant nutrition education materials for individual/group education sessions. Determines the correct WIC food package for each WIC participant, to include dyads, i.e. Breastfeeding (Fully, Mostly, and Some) and Postpartum WIC Moms and their infant(s). Qualifications EDUCATION High School Graduate or GED required. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Possess a valid driver’s license. PRIOR EXPERIENCE: Minimum 1 year of related work experience in interviewing, individual/group nutrition education or consumer education, desirable Minimum 1 year of work experience in computer basics and data entry; and customer service work preferred. SKILLS Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred Effective written and verbal communication when working with people with various cultural backgrounds while performing: Interviews, group education session, one-to-one education sessions. Able to quickly build and maintain rapport with participants and team members of differing backgrounds; team player Customer-service oriented Basic computer skills and able to learn and understand the WIC WISE Program Positive professional insight Flexibility and dependability Demonstrated good problem-solving skills; sound judgment Modern office practices and procedures including email Attention to detail and excellent follow-through on work tasks Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously The pay range for this non-exempt position starts at $23.00 an hour. Our salary ranges are dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience. Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
