About The Position
Pheasants Forever (PF) in Wisconsin is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Prescribed Burn Coordinator, located in Dodgeville, Wisconsin. This role is crucial for promoting, coordinating, and supporting the safe and effective use of prescribed fire on both private and public lands across southwest Wisconsin. The Prescribed Burn Coordinator will be an integral part of a dedicated team of 23 staff members at Wisconsin PF and will collaborate closely with the Southern Driftless Grasslands partnership and other key partners in the region. The primary responsibilities of this position include prescribed fire planning, outreach, training, and coordination. The successful candidate will work alongside the PF Conservation Outreach Coordinator and engage with a diverse range of individuals and resource professionals to promote the development and implementation of prescribed fire practices in grassland and savanna landscapes. This position requires a self-starter with excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as a strong work ethic. The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to the conservation of natural resources in southwest Wisconsin. Key duties will involve working with various partners to identify and deliver prescribed fire outreach and training needs, conducting site visits to assess burn units, leading and participating in prescribed burns, and writing and acquiring permits for burn plans. The Coordinator will also support the establishment of landowner-led Prescribed Burn Associations (PBAs) and maintain communication with fire practitioners across the state to enhance the use of prescribed fire. Staying informed about grassland conservation issues and providing advice to landowners on land management practices will also be essential components of this role.
