AMC’s White Mountain Trail Crew is the oldest paid trail crew in the country, founded in 1919. Our 2026 season is brimming with technical trail work in front-country and backcountry locations throughout the region. The Field Coordinator is expected to provide technical expertise and be active in the work, and on site for at least 75 percent of their time. The FC is ultimately responsible for the quality and quantity of work, the efficiency of the operation, and the finished product for AMC and partner crews. For the remaining 25 percent or less the FC will complete reporting, attend meetings, and attend to logistics and organization. As senior leadership on the White Mountain Trail Crew, the skills and experience of the Field Coordinators may be leveraged to support other projects as needed. AMC’s trail crew will work a regular Monday-Thursday schedule, 7 AM-5:30 PM. All travel time, hike time, mobilization and demobilization is paid. Work will include backcountry camping during work weeks. The Field Coordinator is generally expected to work the same daily schedule, as are our partner crews, but can exercise some flexibility. If room and board is desired, a $75 per week paycheck deduction covers all employee food including days off if you stay on campus. A wide variety of food is available and all dietary restrictions can be accommodated. Also included in this deduction is days off housing is provided at Camp Dodge, and includes wifi, coin-op laundry, prepared meals, abundant trail access, and commanding views of the Northern Presidentials. Employees can opt in or out of room and board. Training opportunities can include axe and crosscut use and maintenance, chainsaw use and maintenance, Wilderness First Aid, rigging, drilling and splitting rock, heavy equipment operation, and more. Field Coordinators are responsible for logistics, purchasing, coordination with sponsors and partners, project specifications, reporting, and supporting the Crew Leader and Crew.
