The Whey Plant Manager provides leadership and direction to the whey plant in all areas of responsibility including administration, production, processing, packaging, quality, maintenance, warehousing, shipping, purchasing, safety, and environmental. How You Will Make Contributions That Matter ... Direct the overall activities of the manufacturing facilities of the plant to ensure customer orders are received, scheduled, produced and shipped at the lowest possible cost to meet the customers’ requirements while maintaining established corporate quality standards. Analyze plant operations to ensure that the facility maintains a leadership position in the industry and that it takes advantage of new processes and technologies that become available. Responsible for expense control, including shrink, yields, labor and overhead costs utilizing Continuous Improvement techniques. Develop annual manufacturing expense budget in accordance with forecasted sales volumes and planned inventory levels. Develop and manage implementation of plant capital budget. Provide reliable and accurate information to finance to ensure that end of month closing schedules are met. Ensure that appropriate standard operating procedures (SOP’s) are developed and maintained for all aspects of the business. Implement plant safety programs and ensure compliance with good manufacturing practices (GMP’s). Responsible for the Food Safety Policy/Program to assess potential food safety risks and to ensure food safety preventive measures are being implemented and routinely audited regarding the manufacturing, handling and storage of all food ingredients as well as finished goods. Responsible for all corporate, customer and government audits to ensure compliance. Responsible for environmental compliance. Collaborate with other plant managers within Saputo to share best practices. Act as a liaison with Distribution, Supply Planning, Sales and Customer Service to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction in helping to address customer inquiries, problems and concerns. Responsible for maintaining proper staffing levels, employee performance evaluations, discipline, and employee commendation. Responsible for the overall succession planning and development of plant management staff. Ensure compliance with all Saputo divisional and corporate policies and procedures. Engage in the typical responsibilities of a manager requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and controlling. Cover supervisory responsibilities involving staffing, conducting performance appraisals, mentoring, training and developing team promotions, salary increases, terminations, disciplinary actions, etc. Adhere to the Saputo Code of Ethics and actively apply the Saputo values (see details in the job requirements below). Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Align with Saputo culture and values (i.e., efficiency, family-oriented environment business approach, ownership and commitment, a hands-on approach and passion).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a plant operations management leadership role, preferably in a whey plant manufacturing operations role in the dairy industry (i.e., spray drying of cheese products or powdered milk, food ingredients (such as spices)) or another relatable food manufacturing product industry.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of regulatory laws, standards and best practices relative to our or relatable manufacturing industry.
  • Demonstrated understanding of costs related to whey manufacturing and packaging.
  • Budget experience a must.
  • Must be able to train and supervise staff, formulate policy, and direct activities.
  • Ability to assess, evaluate, and resolve issues.
  • Experience in successfully influencing, leading, coaching, motivating, and leading a team in a “hands-on” environment.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability in remaining approachable and accessible to employees on all shifts, as needed.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs.
  • Skill in organization, prioritization, and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, ERP experience required, SAP a plus.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Safety, Biology or relevant field of study is preferred.
