The position involves operating two spray dryers for production and cleaning in place (CIP). The operator is responsible for reviewing equipment status, operating the dryer to manufacture products to required specifications, and communicating any issues to the Team Leader. The role includes testing products for specifications, ensuring smooth production runs, and maintaining a clean work environment. The operator must also comply with safety and food safety regulations, participate in training, and complete all job activities following set safety and operational standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Review equipment status and record findings and occurrences.
  • Operate dryer to manufacture product to required specifications and communicate issues to Team Leader.
  • Test product for required specifications and make adjustments as needed.
  • Ensure smooth production run through checking flow splits and jumper placement, making pre-set adjustments, maintaining log sheets, and verifying proper operation and temperature settings.
  • Install nozzles and follow sequential start-up steps.
  • Take special samples for lab analysis and carry out routine product analysis.
  • Perform CIP on all equipment as required.
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Attend required training and take required quizzes.
  • Complete all safety activities, plant meetings, near misses, and BBSs.
  • Keep records in accordance with good manufacturing processes and local and state laws.
  • Utilize GPS processes and uphold the culture of Southwest Cheese non-negotiables.
  • Comply with occupational safety and health standards and food safety regulations.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; or related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Forklift and scissor lift certification and general machine maintenance knowledge is required.
  • Ability to run, or learn to run and troubleshoot all equipment.
  • Excellent attendance and safety record.
  • Desire to grow with the company.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and delegate assignments.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
