About The Position

Richland Library is seeking to hire a Full-Time Manager at our Wheatley location . Sample Duties: Effectively demonstrates characteristics of being enthusiastic, outgoing, and strongly customer-service oriented, including the application of the Richland Library’s customer engagement standards. Greets customers & successfully ascertains individualized needs and/or requirements for each customer. Engages, encourages, and assists diverse customers in all areas of the Library in a welcoming, professional, and respectful manner. Manages a popular library that operates approximately 58 hours per week. Acts as the leader of the department or branch: provides the best possible example and model of excellence, both on the floor and behind-the-scenes. Coaches, mentors, guides, and effectively supervises staff honestly, directly, and consistently to achieve new levels of excellence. Actively engages and manages staff, including initiating and implementing plans for employee development. Demonstrates excellent communication skills with staff, customers, community partners, and Richland Library leadership. Continually trains and develops staff in areas such as exceptional customer experiences, product knowledge, collection management, and visual merchandising. Recruits, interviews, hires, and retains a diverse and talented group of staff and volunteers. Collaborates with other team members to develop and conduct programming that best serves the branch’s specific community. Explores and cultivates community partnerships; participates in local organizations, community events; acts as a Library liaison to the community. Oversees library operations to ensure customer experience standards; delivers an organized schedule and effective staffing. Demonstrates ability to learn quickly and to apply new skills and knowledge easily, including technology and procedures. Resolves complex circulation problems successfully; interprets and communicates library policies and procedures to customers and staff. Plans, develops, and conducts programs for and with community groups. Represents the library at community and group meetings. Answers directional and informational questions about the Library, including services, materials, programs, and initiatives. Evaluates and analyzes the branch collection as part of an orderly collection development process; maintains current collection based on customer needs. Analyzes library statistics and budget preparation; identifies new strategies for maximizing results, and reports this information to staff and upper management. Provides reference, bibliographic and reader’s advisory assistance. Develops, participates, and performs special activities and other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a highly relevant field and a minimum of 2 years of documented relevant work experience, including work that would demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities (for example, library, hospitality or customer service management).
  • ALA accredited MLIS degree is preferred but not required (with MLIS degree the experience requirement may be reduced).
  • Transcripts must be presented upon hire.
  • Valid driver’s license with safe driving record.
  • Ability to perform duties of job.
