About The Position

WGAL-TV offers paid internships in various departments. To apply, candidates must submit a cover letter detailing their semester preference, department preference, available start and end dates, days and hours available to intern, main objectives for participating in the internship, and strongest areas of interest. Application deadlines are as follows: Spring: November 17, 2024; Summer: February 16, 2025; Fall: June 29, 2025. Interns will spend 10-12 weeks shadowing and gaining experience in departments such as Newsroom, Sports, Weather, Broadcast Technical Operations, Creative Services, Sales, and Sales Research. Internships are scheduled based on mutual availability and academic requirements, typically consisting of 16 hours per week.

Requirements

• Must provide a cover letter with application.
• Must be enrolled in a relevant academic program for specific departments (e.g., meteorology for Weather).
• Strong interest in local and national sports for Sports department.
• Business/math/numbers background for Research department.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in writing and producing content.
• Familiarity with social media platforms.
• Knowledge of local sports scene.

Responsibilities

• Assist team members in gathering news and information in the Newsroom.
• Practice writing and formatting scripts for broadcast in TV News Production.
• Help research and write content for WGAL digital platforms in Digital News Production.
• Assist team members with field work and news gathering in Photographers and Logistics.
• Write scripts for daily sportscasts and pitch story ideas in Sports.
• Analyze weather charts and models, prepare daily forecasts, and produce weather graphics in Weather.
• Operate equipment under observation in Broadcast Technical Operations.
• Learn the fundamentals of writing and producing effective promotions in Creative Services.
• Develop sales promotional pieces and assist in sales promotion video production in Sales.
• Assist with audience viewing data interpretation in Sales Research.
