About The Position

WGAL-TV offers paid internships in various departments including News, Sports, Meteorology, Technical, Creative Services, and Sales. Interns are required to submit a cover letter detailing their semester preference, department preference, available dates, hours, objectives for the internship, and areas of interest. Internships typically last 10-12 weeks and may consist of 16 hours per week, scheduled based on mutual availability and academic requirements.

Requirements

• Must provide a cover letter with application.
• Must be enrolled in a relevant academic program for specific departments (e.g., meteorology for Weather department).
• Strong interest in local and national sports for Sports department.
• Business/math background preferred for Research department.

Nice To Haves

• Experience or coursework in journalism, communications, or related fields.
• Familiarity with social media platforms.
• Creative skills for promotional content development.

Responsibilities

• Assist team members in gathering news and information in the newsroom.
• Practice writing and formatting scripts for broadcast.
• Help research and write content for WGAL digital platforms.
• Assist with field work and news gathering.
• Write scripts for daily sportscast and research team/player statistics.
• Analyze weather charts and models, prepare daily forecasts, and produce weather graphics.
• Gain hands-on experience in technical operations including control room and studio operations.
• Learn the fundamentals of writing and producing effective promotions in Creative Services.
• Develop sales promotional pieces and assist in sales promotion video production.
• Assist with audience viewing data interpretation in the Research department.
