About The Position

Legal Aid of Southeastern PA (LASP) is seeking a full-time attorney to provide civil legal services in its West Chester Office. The role primarily focuses on representing low-income individuals in landlord-tenant cases, but may also involve other areas such as bankruptcy, consumer law, and public benefits. The successful candidate will work both in-office and remotely, engaging in various legal tasks including client interviews, legal research, document preparation, and court representation.

Requirements

• License to practice law in Pennsylvania or eligible for admission.
• At least two years of experience as a lawyer preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and legal research tools.
• Strong written and oral advocacy skills.
• Organizational skills and a commitment to public interest law.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in landlord-tenant law and family law.
• Familiarity with bankruptcy and consumer law.

Responsibilities

• Interview clients to determine eligibility for services and investigate facts.
• Conduct legal research and interpret statutes, case law, and regulations.
• Provide legal advice and counsel to clients.
• Prepare legal documents including briefs, pleadings, motions, and correspondence.
• Develop strategies and arguments for case presentations and assist in witness preparation.
• Represent clients in trial and appellate courts and before administrative agencies.
• Review decisions and consult with management on potential appeals.
• Participate in community organizations relevant to casework and conduct educational workshops.
• Engage in team efforts to achieve office and program goals.
• Enhance skills through training and continuing legal education (CLE).
• Complete administrative tasks including case management and timekeeping.
• Ensure compliance with grant and contract requirements.
