About The Position

The WESH 2/ CW18 News Internship Program is a paid, rigorous and highly competitive hands-on experience that provides individuals the opportunity to learn about the operations of a broadcast television station. You will develop news writing, producing, reporting, and digital media skills while learning from award-winning staff at WESH 2 News. Additional opportunities are available in the behind-the-scenes areas of production/studio operations, weather and marketing/promotions. Your internship will prepare you for work in a real newsroom, giving you opportunities in nearly every aspect of news production.

Requirements

  • Must be a college student or recent graduate.
  • Must provide a cover letter with application including semester, department preference, available start and end dates, and days/hours available to intern.
  • Comfortable with heights and able to lift light equipment for production/studio operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of a meteorology curriculum or closely related program of study for the weather internship.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside reporters, producers, and news managers in the newsroom.
  • Learn skills in on-scene reporting, producing, video editing, research, and working at the assignment desk.
  • Learn the technical aspects of live news broadcasts in production/studio operations.
  • Receive training in robotic cameras, floor directing, lighting, and show set-ups.
  • Publish content to digital platforms and analyze real-time online metrics in the digital department.
  • Research, write, and publish stories for WESH.com.
  • Work with meteorologists to create and deliver forecast information for television and online audiences in the weather department.
  • Gain hands-on experience in marketing, advertising, promotion, or production.
