The role of the Wellness Manager is responsible for leading the store’s supplements, body care, and general mercantile products. This role combines product knowledge, customer service, and leadership to ensure the department offers high-quality products, exceptional shopping experiences, and strong sales performance. The Wellness Manager oversees product selection, vendor relationships, merchandising, and compliance with industry regulations, while also training and supporting staff to provide knowledgeable service.

  • Oversee purchasing and inventory for supplements, vitamins, herbal products, and personal care items.
  • Ensure proper stock levels while minimizing out-of-stock and overstock situations.
  • Negotiate with vendors for best pricing, terms, and promotional opportunities.
  • Merchandising shelves attractively and in line with seasonal trends and sales goals.
  • Rotate stock regularly and check expiration dates to maintain product freshness and compliance.
  • Research and source new products that align with customer demands and industry trends.
  • Maintain compliance with organic, non-GMO, fair trade, and other certification standards where applicable.
  • Provide knowledgeable, personalized service to customers seeking guidance on supplements and wellness products.
  • Answer customer questions in compliance with DSHEA regulations.
  • Offer product demonstrations, samples, and educational materials.
  • Host in-store events, classes, or workshops on wellness topics.
  • Build long-term customer relationships through trust and personalized recommendations.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise wellness department staff.
  • Ensure team members are knowledgeable about product lines, trends, and customer service best practices.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to review sales goals, product knowledge, and promotions.
  • Create schedules that balance coverage with budgets.
  • Ensure all products meet labeling safety and regulatory requirements
  • Adhere to FDA, FTC, and other relevant guidelines for supplement and personal care sales.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized department areas.
  • Maintain vendor relationships and track purchase orders.
  • Prepare and manage department budget.
  • Stay informed on industry regulations, trends, and competitor offerings.
  • Previous retail management or supervisory experience required, preferably in natural foods, grocery, or health and wellness.
  • Knowledge of supplements, vitamins, herbal remedies, and natural body care products strongly preferred.
  • Experience with purchasing, inventory management, and vendor relations.
  • Background in nutrition, natural health, or related field a plus.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills with the ability to motivate and train staff.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to educate customers while staying within legal guidelines.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and initiative to complete tasks.
  • Comfortable analyzing sales data, tracking trends, and setting department goals.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt readily based on evolving co-op needs or in response of feedback.
  • Proficiency with POS systems, spreadsheets, and basic office software.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays to align with store needs.
  • Background in nutrition, natural health, or related field a plus.
