What You’ll Do: Design and lead wellness programming that reflects a holistic wellness philosophy Lead water aerobics and land exercise classes, plus one-on-one fitness equipment instruction Collaborate with therapeutic recreation staff across health care and assisted living Develop schedules for pool and fitness areas Deliver educational programs in your areas of expertise Transport residents using a 14-passenger van What to Know: This is a highly resident-facing role; you’ll be a familiar, trusted presence in their daily lives Comfort in and around a pool is required Job Summary: Develops and coordinates the Wellness Center programs for independent living and assisted living residents; supervises the pool and exercise room; and promotes the holistic wellness programs. Essential Functions: Treats all information about residents, their condition, and family as confidential information. Complies with established Corporate and Departmental policies and procedures, and maintains established standards and practices. Responsible for developing, planning, implementing and evaluation of a full schedule of wellness activities related to the swimming pool and physical fitness areas. Works with the Marketing/Sales and independent living Activities Coordinator to promote holistic wellness in the areas of physical, emotional, spiritual, social and intellectual personal well-being to residents and staff. Provides one-on-one instruction on fitness equipment and facility orientation for all residents new to the program. Develops group exercise instruction programs for residents and co-workers. Works with the physical and occupational therapists as needed for residents at all levels of care. Provides wellness education and programming for preparation of the monthly calendar, and wellness articles for the internal newsletters. Leads water and land exercise classes. Develops and implements all rules relating to safety in all areas of the Wellness Center. Maintains resident files to include verification of physician clearance, exercise logs and assessments, as needed. Provides direction to volunteers who work with the Wellness Center activities. Performs other functions as directed by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Degree in exercise physiology or related field, with a minimum of 1-year experience.
  • Certified in CPR, first aid and life saving.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, co-workers, volunteers and the general public.
  • Highly organized yet flexible and patient; able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Enthusiastic and friendly while maintaining confidentiality; ability to respond to the various needs of the geriatric population.
  • Must understand, promote and teach the goal/objectives of the Wellness Center and the mission of the corporation in general.
  • Has compassion, understanding and empathy for older persons.
  • Ability to communicate to residents at a level they can understand.
  • Must be able to constantly work on their feet during an 8 hour shift.
  • Sometimes involved in assisting with resident transfers or repositioning.
  • Must be able to react quickly and decisively in emergency situations and during unexpected behavior of residents.
  • Must be able to push residents who are in a wheel chair frequently throughout an 8 hour shift (and be able to drive the company van.)
  • Comfort in and around a pool is required
