About The Position

The Wellness Assistant is an integral part of the Fitness and Wellness team within Bethesda. The Wellness Assistants is responsible for leading multiple group fitness classes that range in variety and levels from Yoga to Water Aerobics. This includes counting, cueing, organizing choreography, and much more. Instructors will also orientate new members on the equipment and perform general receptionist duties such as answering and directing phone calls, taking messages, scheduling appointments, and keeping the wellness center tidy.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • Group Fitness Certified
  • AED/CPR
  • Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down.
  • Understand proper form and technique while instructing classes.
  • Ability to plan and lead a group fitness class and come up with new ideas.
  • Prepares appropriate equipment, music, and handouts for each class.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Publisher
  • Ability to answer and direct call politely and accurately.
  • Confidence in all matters.
  • Proficient in basic communication skills.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow instructions.
  • Must write legibly and spell correctly.
  • Ability to communicate in a welcoming, professional manner.
  • Friendly attitude.
  • Patience to work with the elderly.
  • Understand the geriatric client and their communication needs.
  • Desire to continue to learn and willingly participate in further decisions.
  • Arrive to work and depart from work on a timely basis.
  • Lift weights up to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Keep the locker rooms and exercise area clean and tidy.
  • Able to instruct multiple classes a day.
  • Ability to cope with continual interruptions.
  • Ability to remain calm, polite, and friendly in all interactions.
  • Ability to function in an environment surrounded by people.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer experience working in a fitness center, certified fitness instructor or personal trainer.
  • Basic computer knowledge, well-developed typing, word processing skills, and understanding of basic bookkeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the initial contact person for members coming to group fitness classes with a positive and professional manner.
  • Serve as a positive, high energy fitness instructor.
  • Provide customer service at the front desk.
  • Plan and implement health promotion programs.
  • Greet and direct all members with friendliness and courtesy, insuring their comfort within the facility.
  • Answering questions and direct members to specific areas in the Wellness Center.
  • Provide information as requested clearly and as politely as possible.
  • Be aware of physician referrals and physician permission forms and place accordingly to club member’s file.
  • Handling administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining member records, processing payments, and responding to inquiries or concerns from members.
  • Enforcing safety protocols, rules, and regulations within the fitness facility to create a secure and supportive environment for members and staff.
  • Performing initial fitness assessments for new members to evaluate their current fitness levels, establish baseline measurements, and identify any specific needs or limitations.
  • Designing and implementing fitness programs tailored to the needs and goals of members. This involves creating workout routines, selecting appropriate equipment and set-up, and ensuring safety standards are met.
  • Other tasks and assignments as requested.
