About The Position

Honest Weight - Wellness Department Assistant Manager Overview: Assistant Manager to the Wellness Department, assists Wellness Department Manager, oversee purchasing, receiving, merchandising, and stocking of the department. Provide supervision and leadership to staff and members workers. Assist CSM in oversight of purchasing records, and department standards. Work with CSM to achieve goals for sales, margin, payroll and inventory turns. Ensure the continuing education of Wellness staff. Work with sales representatives and brokers to negotiate deals on behalf of the co-op.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Met or exceeded expectations on most recent performance evaluation
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient use in basic functions of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook

Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Department Manager, articulate a vision for the department and impart this to all staff.
  • Participate in weekly or more frequent check-ins with the Department Manager and attend department head meetings.
  • Work with the Department Manager to set and document department goals and strategies and confer quarterly with the Department Manager to ensure alignment with store goals.
  • Work with the Department Manager to monitor departmental financial indicators and use this data to improve department performance.
  • Work with the Department Manager and wellness team to achieve or exceed department sales goals, monitor trends and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Consistently achieve or exceed department margin goals.
  • Monitor product movement and mark down products as needed to reduce excess inventory while minimizing loss.
  • Model the highest level of customer service towards all customers.
  • Establish customer service as a first priority for all staff and member workers.
  • Negotiate with suppliers, brokers, and sales representatives for best prices, terms, quality and delivery.
  • Ensure that products fall within Co-op guidelines.
  • Work with the Department Manager to employ category management to continually refine the product mix and space allocation.
  • Ensure that signage conforms to branding standards.
  • Work with the Department Manager and Marketing department to plan attractive promotional displays to generate customer interest.
  • Promote an ethic of shared responsibility among staff for maintaining the day-to-day cleanliness of retail and backstock space.
  • Aid the Department Manager in day to day supervision of staff and member owners; assign tasks as necessary.
  • Work with Department Manager to plan regular department meetings and vendor product trainings.
  • Work in conjunction with the Department Manager on all new hires within the wellness department.
  • Work with the Department Manager to provide effective and consistent basic training to all new staff within 30 days of hire, including fundamentals of customer service and proper lifting procedures, with additional job specific training as required within 60 days to allow for meaningful evaluation within probation period.
  • Ensure on the job training for hired staff and member workers.
  • Actively bring performance and personnel issues within the department to the Department Manager's attention in a timely manner and document behaviors consistently for all staff, as per Honest Weight’s progressive counciling policy.
  • Work with Department Manager to write and present performance evaluations to all department staff in a timely fashion.
