About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager, the Wellness & Prevention Supervisor is responsible for supervising the functions and activities for all members’ health education, wellness and prevention services and support staff level positions within the Wellness & Prevention Department. Performs a full range of administrative and support functions such as payroll activities, including approval of timecards for all hourly employees. The Wellness & Prevention Supervisor is fully competent in all essential areas of supervising health education, wellness and prevention activities and is expected to use an advanced level of judgment in the management and mentoring of the member health educators and supporting staff within a Knox-Keene licensed health maintenance organization (HMO). Under general direction, this position reports directly to the Manager of Wellness & Prevention. The incumbent in this position is expected to field questions from the staff, assist in staff training and relieve the Manager of Wellness & Prevention from a variety of administrative functions. This classification performs the more complex and responsible assignments as defined by the Manager of Wellness & Prevention.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree with specialization in public health or other health related field required.
  • 4 years of experience performing health education services for a managed care health plan, public health department or other health care sector.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience or leading health education projects for a managed care health plan, public health department or other health care sector.
  • Possession of valid driver’s license and proof of State required auto liability insurance.
  • Required Travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

  • Provides supervision, technical and/or process direction and training to Wellness & Prevention staff.
  • Monitors workload of Wellness & Prevention staff and works with the department Manager to adjust workloads as needed.
  • Works with the department Manager to assign work arounds in absences or other scheduling conflicts.
  • Analyzes and recommends improvements in Wellness & Prevention systems, including identification of process or procedure inefficiencies and working with the department Manager to take appropriate action for improvement.
  • Conducts performance evaluation of Wellness & Prevention staff.
  • Provides input to the department Manager regarding disciplinary issues and resolution.
  • Creates and monitors departmental productivity reports.
  • Trains and delegates Wellness & Prevention staff on the maintenance of departmental reports.
  • Performs a variety of administrative functions, which includes PTO requests, schedule changes, and timecards.
  • Participates in the development and preparation of department budget, goals and objectives consistent with organization's goals.
  • Coordinates administrative activities under the guidance of the department Manager.
  • Informs Manager of department progress. and conducts special research projects as requested.
  • Provides oversight of wellness and prevention services and coordinates the evaluation of member and provider health education and outreach materials in accordance with DHCS guidelines.
  • Serves as a mentor by providing guidance and instruction to staff, such as the member health educators and health education specialists.
  • Develops, conducts, coordinates and monitors health education, wellness and prevention training programs for KHS staff and providers.
  • Develops surveys which comply with state regulations to identify community and plan health education needs and the effectiveness of the implemented program.
  • Supervises the development, implementation and coordination of approved plans to ensure timely and effective communication.
  • Focus on educating members and providers on how to request health education services.
  • Monitors systems to ensure compliance with State, Federal and contractual/regulatory requirements regarding Wellness & Prevention Services.
  • Oversees implementation of the Wellness & Prevention Program and provides written updates the Work Plan and Evaluation on an annual basis.
  • Ensures that tasks and projects related to health education service requests have been performed within established policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Supervises and provides guidance on coordinating the health education referral process, assigning referrals requests, maintaining health literacy tools, resources and trainings, communicating with vendors on health education issues and needs, and answering questions.
  • Supervises the coordination and recruitment of qualified health education vendors and consultants.
  • Assists with monitoring and maintaining vendor contracts, evaluating the quality of services provided and the renewal process of vendor contracts.
  • Produces and presents reports on departmental activities and in-services on health education programs and services to both internal and external partners.
  • Participates in the Community Advisory Committee and other collaborative meetings within KHS, the county and state.
  • Presents reports and data, as needed.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures relative to employment and job responsibilities.
