About The Position

In this role, you will support Aug Prep’s mission by fostering the whole child through movement, social-emotional growth, and healthy habits. The Wellness & Movement Teacher plays a vital role in helping students build self-regulation, resilience, teamwork, and physical well-being in ways that strengthen academic success and cultivate a joyful school culture. You will collaborate closely with teachers, Dean of Student Success, social work staff, and school leadership to design and deliver developmentally appropriate experiences that promote movement, emotional wellness, and positive student engagement.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; background in education, physical education, health, counseling, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, design and lead structured movement-based experiences for K4 - 2 students, that support student regulation, focus, and physical health.
  • Use state Physical Education standards to support instruction, ensuring lessons are developmentally appropriate and aligned to long-term skill progression.
  • Scaffold instruction to meet the developmental needs of students at different stages of learning.
  • Prepare materials and resources needed for instruction.
  • Create a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment that promotes respect, integrity, courage, perseverance and participation.
  • Support students’ social-emotional development through lessons, routines, and embedded practices aligned to schoolwide SEL goals
  • Teach and reinforce skills such as self-awareness, self-regulation, collaboration, perseverance, and healthy decision-making
  • Partner with classroom teachers to integrate movement and wellness strategies into the school day.
  • Support positive behavior and engagement through proactive, preventative practices.
  • Collaborate with Dean of Student Success and social work teams to support students with additional emotional or behavioral needs
  • Create inclusive, safe, and engaging environments that meet the developmental needs of all learners.
  • Model healthy habits, positive relationships, and joyful participation for students.
  • Support schoolwide initiatives related to wellness, movement, and student engagement as needed.
  • Assess student learning informally and formally, using observations and performance-based tasks to guide instruction.
  • Seek out opportunities to integrate Biblical truth with lessons.
  • Integrate character education and/or faith-based values into daily lessons.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Manage classroom behavior in a consistent and effective manner, promoting courage, respect, integrity, and perseverance through the development and maintenance of positive relationships with students.
  • Serve as the cultural and spiritual model for students, always interacting respectfully and striving to demonstrate God’s love to their students and families.
  • Effectively communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress, behavior, and needs.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
  • Communicate proactively and consistently with students, families, and colleagues, providing frequent updates on student progress, classroom activities, and school initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively and supportively with colleagues, supervisors, students, parents/guardians, and community members, maintaining positive, solution-oriented relationships that foster a strong, inclusive environment for optimal learning.
  • Continuously seek professional growth through building and department meetings/professional development, formal coursework, workshops, and seminars/in-services.
  • Monitor and support students during morning arrival, lunch, recess and dismissal.
