About The Position

This position is part of the growing RNG Team within NextEra Energy’s Power Generation Division. The Wellfield Technician I must have solid written and verbal communication, technical, and analytical skills. The Wellfield Tech I should possess extensive knowledge and experience with all aspects of landfill GCCS design, operations, and management and thorough knowledge of relevant experience at U.S. landfills subject to Federal NSPS requirements.    The Wellfield Tech I must demonstrate a strong aptitude in mechanical work, understand relevant regulatory requirements, is experienced in reading and implementing GCCS plans, equipment operating and maintenance manuals, and schematics.  Maintains accurate records of equipment maintenance, tracking, and production activities. Collaborates with the team to maintain a clean and organized work environment. Adheres to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a secure work environment. Participates in safety meetings and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skillsets.

Requirements

  • High School Grad / GED
  • Unrestricted Valid Driver’s License (Non-CDL)
  • Experience: 3+ years
  • Valid Driver's License (NON CDL)

Responsibilities

  • Perform operations and maintenance of the landfill gas collection system which includes, but not limited to, activities such as taking gas reads, tuning, inspecting, and repairing LFG wellheads and piping, ensuring condensate knockouts and pumps are working properly.
  • Proactively work with landfill partners and properly operate, maintain the GCCS work and optimize performance and increase efficiency in a timely and cost-effective manner to ensure regulatory compliance of their gas collection systems.Possess proficiency with MS Office Suite products, in particular Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Strictly follow and enforce Company safety policies and administer Company policies and procedures
  • Take the LFG composition (methane, carbon dioxide, oxygen, and balance gas) and/or as may otherwise be required by permit or government law/regulation.
  • Regulate and Monitor Wellhead and header pressure or vacuum
  • Regulate Wellhead and header gas temperature
  • Perform Quarterly Liquid levels and liquids extraction from wells and document accordingly
  • Seal Wellhead piping and well bore seal condition at the landfill surface
  • Make all adjustments made at each well as required to: (i) maintain system balance, (ii) maintain gas quality, (iii) maintain regulatory and permit compliance, and (iv) control offsite odors; and Keep Startup, Shutdown and Malfunction logs, and Greenhouse Gas Monitoring
  • Maintain wellfield records on the items listed above herein and input the data to SCS E-Tools or such other GCCS monitoring, and management software (“GCCS Tool”) used by Landfill Owner.
  • Maintain close working relationships with Landfill and Plant Operations
  • Implement daily efforts of GCCS wellfield repair and maintenance activities, along with those of performing regulatory monitoring and wellfield tuning efforts.
  • Interact with vendors and/or sub-contractors needed to assist with operating, monitoring, and maintenance of the GCCS.
  • Have expertise in the use, maintenance, and calibration of typical GCCS analytical equipment, including gas chromatographs and hand-held GEMs.
  • Be familiar with the correct operation, including operating a backhoe, small excavator, articulated dump truck, or small bulldozer used for soil removal/placement, replacing sump pumps, using extrusion welding equipment
  • Recommending immediate as well as future changes to such practices to optimize gas recovery, gas quality and/or regulatory compliance.
  • Proactively work with landfill partners to optimize and increase efficiency of their gas collection systems.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned and GCCS operation and maintenance includes:
  • Knowledge of the use of various piping material systems such as Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) or High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe fusion.
  • Calibrate, operate, and maintain sensitive electronic data collection devices necessary to optimize LFG collection from the wellfield.
  • Collect and manage data entry from wellfield extraction and environmental monitoring locations
  • Implement the GCCS preventative maintenance plan
  • Operate and maintain liquid management system pneumatic or electric driven pumps (troubleshoot and determine liquid levels within liquid containment structures and LFG collection wells)
  • Perform wellfield adjustments, data collection and maintenance; interpret data
  • Install and maintain Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) piping systems
  • Operate and maintain Blower / flare equipment if needed
  • Perform condensate management system maintenance
  • Assist with coordinating contractor activities
  • Follow job related health and safety requirements and procedures
  • Available for on-call response to GCCS related malfunction event(s)
  • Troubleshoot & Review GCCS operating data
  • Assist with mentoring and less experienced technicians
  • Lead special projects as assigned
