About the position

The position involves providing professional student services, including advising students individually and in groups, and resolving complex student services problems. The incumbent will establish and maintain effective, cooperative, and harmonious working relationships, particularly in circumstances that involve the denial of requests or the necessity to persuade others to accept different viewpoints. The role requires a strong understanding of the interrelationships, motivations, and goals of the members of the organization served.

Responsibilities

  • Advise students individually and in groups.
  • Analyze and resolve complex student services problems.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Persuade others to accept different points of view.
  • Manage difficult and complex situations involving students.
  • Collaborate with campus departments including Student Health Services and Dean of Students.
  • Develop plans and implement goals efficiently.

Requirements

  • Four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
  • Experience in advising students individually and in groups.
  • Experience in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.
  • Possession of a current, valid and unrestricted California Board of Behavioral Sciences Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) License or a Marriage & Family Therapist (MFT) License.
  • Certification in mental health support and services within the first year.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related human services field.
  • Doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a social worker, case manager, or mental health clinician.
  • Previous experience working with Care Teams or Basic Needs programs.
  • Experience in a multicultural, urban setting.
