Well Construction Fluids Lab Technician
About The Position
The Well Construction Fluids Laboratory Technician is responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and reliable technical support to key stakeholders. The Well Construction Fluids Laboratory Technician identifies opportunities to improve fluid design, new products, or improve quality of laboratory operations. This person performs quality assurance tests on company products, prepares laboratory reports for internal stakeholders, and provides advanced technical support during additive selection and fluid design for well integrity. The Well Construction Fluids Laboratory Technician maintains contact with the operations management, sales, operating locations, product centers and the InTouch repository.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience working in a laboratory setting with cementing fluids.
- Candidates with a background in construction materials or oilfield fluids are welcome.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in oilfield fluids product development is highly desirable.
- Previous experience working with or for chemical suppliers is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Ensure job deliverables are accurate and delivered on time.
- Perform laboratory tests adhering to API, ASTM, or SLB recommended practices.
- Ensure that laboratory equipment is in clean, working condition and that waste is regularly disposed.
- Develop the competency level required to perform advanced additive selection to optimized and troubleshoot fluid’s technical performance.
- Evaluate and develop new chemistries or alternative suppliers of existing chemistries for use in well construction fluids.
- Collaborate or mentor peers to share knowledge or experience aimed at improving efficiency or quality of laboratory operations.
- Prepare technical presentations for internal and external customers.
- Perform regular audits to ensure the laboratory operates according to required standards.
- Assist the sales, supply chain, operating locations, and operational teams with technical support as required.
- Perform risk analysis before each task or job to identify and mitigate potential safety or quality concerns.
- Participate in Service Quality Meetings with internal stakeholders to improve performance using action plans.
- Participate in HSE and Quality initiatives.
- Wear PPE and observe HSE policies.
- Maintain the required safety training.
