About The Position

Signal Metal Industries is seeking a skilled and motivated Welding Trainer to develop, mentor, and elevate welders at all experience levels. This role focuses on developing skill proficiency, reinforcing quality standards, and supporting overall production performance.

Requirements

• Complete and pass welding assessment
• Strong hands-on welding experience in heavy steel plate fabrication
• Proven experience with flux-core (.060 wire preferred)
• Ability to weld in flat, vertical, and overhead positions
• Strong communication skills with the ability to teach different skill levels
• Excellent safety record and strong shop awareness
• Bilingual - English and Spanish

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience training, mentoring, or coaching welders preferred

Responsibilities

• Conduct hands-on and classroom welder training for new hires and current employees
• Lead new hire welding training FCAW, carbon Arc gouging, torch technique, safety, processes, blueprint reading and welding standards
• Provide advanced welding training to improve skill level, efficiency, and quality
• Develop and deliver refresher training as needed based on quality issues or process changes
• Perform and oversee welder and fitter testing for applicants
• Evaluate weld tests for quality, technique, and adherence to company standards
• Document test results, training progress, and skill assessments
• Provide real-time coaching and correction on the production floor by identifying welding issues and immediately assist welders in correcting technique, settings, or process
• Support welders and fitters with problem-solving to reduce rework and improve throughput
• Conduct floor walkthroughs and visual evaluations to ensure welding standards are being met
• Partner with production and quality teams to increase welding efficiency and consistency
• Identify training gaps contributing to scrap, rework, or delays
• Promote safe welding practices and proper equipment use at all times
