About The Position

The Welding Instructor is responsible for teaching welding-related courses, facilitating student learning and success, and developing curriculum and strategies that address the needs of students, industry partners, and the welding industry. Instruction will be delivered across multiple modalities and pedagogical approaches, including classroom-based instruction and experiential, hands-on learning opportunities. In consultation with the Dean, the instructor will oversee lab and project activities, ensuring effective support for daily operations. The instructor will also support program activities such as community outreach, student recruitment, and building relationships with industry partners. First consideration will be given to applications received by February 18, 2026.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or diploma in Welding or a closely related field with at least 3,000 hours of relevant, recent work experience in the welding industry.
  • In the absence of a degree or diploma, candidate must have a minimum of 6,000 hours of relevant, recent work experience in the welding industry.
  • Applicants for this position must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. NIACC is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in closely related field preferred.
  • Previous collegiate teaching experience, including demonstrated effectiveness in student engagement, curriculum development, and assessment of learning outcomes.
  • Commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy also preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching & Program Development – Plan, deliver, and assess instruction across various formats (in-person, online, hybrid, and off-campus). Develop and update curricula, select textbooks, track assessment data, and ensure alignment with industry standards. Engage in continuous professional development and participate in institutional committees. May be assigned to teach other courses for which qualifications are met.
  • Student Engagement & Support – Maintain regular office hours and provide academic support to students in person or online. Create a supportive learning environment and promote student success through clear communication and effective instructional strategies.
  • Program Promotion & Outreach – Actively participate in student recruitment and retention efforts, contribute to marketing initiatives, and cultivate relationships with industry partners, high schools, and the community.
  • Professionalism & Communication – Maintain strong organizational skills, demonstrate reliability, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Lab and Equipment Management – Oversee the Welding lab, ensuring a safe, organized, and effective environment for hands-on instruction. Maintain tools, equipment, and materials, and coordinate with support staff or students assisting in lab activities.
  • Physical & Travel Requirements – Work in indoor/outdoor settings, operate equipment as needed, and travel for outreach, recruitment, and off-campus instruction.
  • Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.
