About The Position

The Welding Inspector plays a critical role in ensuring the quality and integrity of welded structures by performing structural welding inspections, including visual testing (VT), magnetic particle testing (MT), penetrant testing (PT), and ultrasonic testing (UT). This position is responsible for verifying compliance with industry standards, project specifications, and safety requirements, while working closely with engineering teams to uphold welding best practices. The role includes travel throughout Kansas, Oklahoma, and southern Nebraska. While we prefer candidates based in the Wichita area, we are open to relocating the right individual. The ideal candidate is a dependable and detail-oriented professional with strong technical knowledge, who thrives in a fast-paced environment that values both teamwork and independent problem-solving.

Requirements

Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver's License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria), may or may not be required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the role
Ability to pass a background check screen
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of a welding certification program or relevant vocational training
Proven experience as a welder in a similar role
Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings
Knowledge of various welding techniques and equipment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
Physical stamina and dexterity for prolonged periods of standing, bending, and lifting
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team
Knowledge of safety protocols and willingness to adhere to them
Ability to read and write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as writing routine reports and correspondence and speaking effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients
Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports
Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form

Responsibilities

Conducts welding inspections at job sites.
Report data in an accurate, complete, timely, and understandable fashion in accordance with applicable inspection procedures
Studies and interprets engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand project requirements
Operates a motor vehicle.
Maintain company vehicle (schedule oil changes, check fluid levels, inside/outside upkeep)
Works closely with other team members, such as fabricators, engineers, and supervisors, to ensure that the project is completed efficiently and meets quality standards.
Communicates with dispatching and/or field supervisor, advising of current job status and locations as required. Cellular phones are to be worn at all times and calls are to be returned in a timely manner
Ensures that project requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures.
Adheres to safety protocols and guidelines to protect oneself and others in the work environment. This includes the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a safe workspace.
Regular attendance is required. Technicians must arrive on time for scheduled jobs.
Completes daily time and labor reports accurately in accordance with company policy.
