About The Position

The Welding Engineering Intern at BWX Technologies, Inc. will engage in a summer internship program focused on supporting welding engineering projects and functions. Interns will work collaboratively with a skilled team of engineers, tackling various fabrication and engineering challenges in a nuclear environment. This role offers hands-on experience in manufacturing processes, including process creation, product improvements, and operational support, culminating in a presentation of completed projects to leadership at the end of the internship.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled full time in an accredited university/college in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology with a welding emphasis, or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years of relevant course work completed.
• Prior internship experience is preferred but not required.
• Experience or knowledge with basic arc welding processes such as GTAW, SMAW, SAW, and GMAW welding.
• Proficient in fundamental computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Strong technical problem-solving abilities and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
• Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.

Nice To Haves

• Robotics/Automated process knowledge is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Support welding engineering projects and improvements.
• Learn and carry out basic functions of shop floor and contract welding engineering duties.
• Lead 5S/process improvement projects relating to specific shop operation jobs.
• Assist with performance of welding procedure development and interpretations.
• Perform welding operation and system audits.
• Apply knowledge of welding processes to support shop floor operations and troubleshooting of welding equipment and operations.
• Document and support operational improvements, including creation of job-specific aids, weld instructions, or checklists.
• Carry out operational efficiency projects (Individual & Team Based).
• Support data collection and analysis for weld metrics.
