The Process Development & Efficiency Section of the Materials and Process Engineering Department is seeking an individual with technical knowledge and expertise in Welding Engineering to support all phases of design and manufacturing across multiple programs, numerous hardware platforms, and in support of various RTX internal customers. In this role, the selected candidate will be supporting manufacturing operations by performing technical assessments, implementing process and design refinements, and monitoring and improving the quality of welded and brazed products.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 6+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
  • Experience in using welding and/or brazing of aluminum or carbon steel or stainless steel or titanium or nickel alloys.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to communicate highly technical and complex concepts to individuals at all levels of technical aptitude and understanding
  • AWS QC-1 CWI or equivalent
  • Desire and ability to work autonomously within a group structure as a contributing team member is essential
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, AWS and ISO welding and brazing symbols, specifications and other technical documentation
  • Ability and willingness to engage in international travel as required
  • Must be self-motivated and possess good communication skills
  • Experience as a technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing, and quality organizations
  • Working knowledge of Military, Commercial and/or ISO Welding Codes and Specifications
  • Basic understanding of welding and brazing metallurgy
  • Must be adaptable and willing to work in all project phases from concept through manufacturing.
  • Practical knowledge of metal processing operations
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to identify root cause and implement appropriate corrective/preventative actions.
  • Experience in training and qualifying welders/brazers and inspectors to meet specification requirements.
  • Understanding and experience in mechanical testing laboratory methods including sectioning, metallography, fracture analysis, hardness testing, etc.
  • Non-destructive Testing certifications
  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments, Six Sigma and statistical techniques.
  • Travel expected to be approximately 25%.
