We have several volunteer opportunities throughout the year. This position description identifies the major responsibilities of this job. It does not include all aspects of the position such as the potential additional duties assigned by supervisors and the requirement for flexibility in helping others for the company's overall benefit. POSITION SUMMARY: The welder will use welding techniques to build stainless steel food processing machinery, and use their knowledge of machines and tools, including designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. The welder will use their knowledge of design techniques and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. The welder will use mathematics to solve problems pertaining to welding functions. The welder will manage how much time is used on a project. The welder will perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Will also convey information effectively so that the job can be completed in the appropriate manner. The welder will observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources before starting a project.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years’ gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW)
  • 3-5 years’ blueprint reading
  • Learns quickly when facing new problems; being open to change; strives for continuous improvement of self and processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to convey information and ideas.
  • Must be able to work overtime, including some weekends when workload requires this.
  • Must satisfactorily pass weld test, background check, and post-offer drug screen, physical and agility test prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits while performing the job function.
  • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc.
  • Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts of warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials.
  • Will lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
  • Communicate potential problems to lead/manager.
  • Ensure assembly tasks are completed within budget and on-time per schedule.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Comply with all quality, safety and work rules and regulations.
  • Understand and maintain both quality and quantity standards and expectations.
  • Continually seek to improve work processes and individual performance.
  • Other tasks assigned by the lead or department manager.
