JOB SUMMARY Lay out, fit, and weld metal components to assemble beds, frames, and small parts work orders. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Actively observe and promote BWise safety standards Analyze drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operation. Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications, using a variety of measuring tools. Tack-weld or welds component and assemblies using welding equipment. Monitor welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material. Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisor. Evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications. Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances using appropriate measuring instruments. Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinder or hand file. Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Ignite torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc. Other duties, as assigned by Welding Supervisor. PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT Must be capable of standing for entire shift and sit for extended periods of time. Able to lift up to 50 lbs; ability to demonstrate full range of motion for reaching, bending, kneeling and stooping. Will be exposed to extreme heat and cold depending on weather. Subject to dirt, dust, oil, welding fumes, electric shock, bright lights, UV radiation, burns, traffic hazards, and high noise levels in the workplace.
