About The Position

Lays out, fits, tack welds and welds cast, machined, forged, and fabricated steel components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, and parts according to blueprints and specifications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • 6 months – 1 year related experience in a manufacturing environment and/or additional related education preferred.
  • Successful completion of a Weiler weld test.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend documents and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one and in groups.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several components in variable and standardized situations.
  • Ability to multitask and stay organized.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Selects equipment, jigs and fixtures, plans layout and welding according to blueprints, process sheets and welding procedure specifications.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns and fits components together.
  • Bolts, clamps, tack welds parts to secure in position for welding according to blueprints, process sheets and welding procedure specifications.
  • Follows Weiler weld standards; welds all jobs in any welding position according to blueprints, process sheets and welding procedure specifications using gas metal arc welding, both conventional and pulsed.
  • Sets and operates a cutting torch safely and efficiently.
  • Finishes grinding applications using manual and power tools.
  • Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping and/or re-welding.
  • Operates a carbon air arc-gauging tool safely and proficiently.
  • Operates a handheld plasma arc-cutting torch safely and proficiently.
  • Reads and understands measuring devices such as tape measure, weld fillet gauge, level, square, protractor and angle finder.
  • Works in a safe manner at all times, following all safety guidelines.
