The Welder is responsible for permanently fitting and welding of various metals to include but not limited to; steel, aluminum, and stainless steel parts using high heat application to form a permanent bond. May specialize in one of hundreds of different processes of welding to join metals together. Certification may be required depending of job specifications. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures Be proficient in MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW) as required Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements) Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead) Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety Determine welding position and type of metal to be fused Ensure welds meet standards and specifications Supervise machines or robots that perform automated welding tasks Operate heavy equipment and machinery in the performance of these essential duties Work with and around hazardous materials, as well as at heights and in confined spaces in the performance of these essential duties Drive a vehicle to various jobsites throughout working hours a. Maintain valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company policy Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for employee job performance Perform other duties as assigned ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Exposure to varying indoor and outdoor conditions, loud noise, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, varying fumes or odors; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; and work in ditches/excavations Work at heights, such as by working on ladders, scaffolds, platforms, tops of single and multi-story buildings, as well as working in confined spaces such as underneath single story and multi-story building Must be able to perform manual and repetitive tasks and body movements including standing and/or walking for long periods of time, bending, reaching, and/or gripping frequently, climbing, pulling and pushing Must be able to lift up to 125lbs May lift and carry heavy objects, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in awkward positions Must be able to complete job duties proficiently while adapting to changing demands and priorities Must have the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and concentrate for long periods of time to perform duties in a safe manner This position is subject to ergonomic testing SAFETY SENSITIVE This position is designated as a safety sensitive position because it includes as part of the job duties operating a motor vehicle, operating, maintaining, monitoring of heavy equipment and machinery, and working with and around hazardous materials, at heights, and in confined spaces.
